SHOCKING MOVE: 9x All-Star Set to Have Huge Impact on Klay Thompson’s Future With Warriors Following Warriors Blockbuster Proposal

As much as we’d want to believe that Klay Thompson’s future will be determined only by discussions between his management and the Golden State Warriors, the truth is that the process is likely to be significantly more convoluted.

Thompson has been rumoured to be on the market for months, but considering that he is no longer a perennial All-Star, the 34-year-old could be influenced by what occurs elsewhere in the league.

Klay Thompson’s future with the Golden State Warriors will be significantly impacted by the free agency choice of LA Clippers star Paul George.
Teams with cap room will undoubtedly be interested in Thompson, who averaged 17.9 points per game on 38.7% three-point shooting. However, he will not be at the top of many teams’ wish lists because they are more likely to desire a larger game-changing talent.

“Various league observers continue to suggest Orlando as a natural suitor for both George and Golden State’s Klay Thompson. The Clippers obviously aim to keep George in free agency, but they’ve made it apparent by allowing negotiations to get to this stage that they want to do so at their own price.”

One of those teams is the Orlando Magic, which has been most closely associated to Thompson in recent months. However, they, too, are interested in LA Clippers star Paul George, as NBA Insider Marc Stein reiterated Sunday.
The Magic could have about $50 million in cap space this summer, giving them the ability to sign one or two big-name free agents. George would be an excellent addition to their youthful core, lead by Paolo Banchero, but he would require an offer that would take up nearly all of their cap space.

Needless to say, if Orlando is able to sign George, that’s one team off the list of possible Thompson destinations. Not only that, but it also eliminates a massive leverage opportunity for the veteran sniper, perhaps lowering the price Golden State must pay to keep him.

There appears to be rising anxiety regarding Thompson’s chances of re-signing with the Warriors, with Marcus Thompson of The Athletic saying on the Warriors Plus Minus podcast last week, “I don’t think it looks good for him coming back.”
