According to a league source, New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson will require surgery to fix a foot issue and is anticipated to miss at least part of training camp while recovering.
ESPN was the first to report on the operation. According to ESPN, Johnson is anticipated to return in time for the start of the regular season.
It is unclear when Johnson sustained the injury. He has missed the first two days of the Saints’ veteran minicamp.
The veteran tight end is approaching the final year of a $12 million contract he signed before last season. He took over as the starting tight end last season, but struggled to build a connection with quarterback Derek Carr, finishing with 37 catches for 368 yards and four touchdowns in 11 games.
