The offseason continues for the Colorado football program and the Denver Broncos, as both teams strive to improve on last year’s performance. Although Broncos newbie Zach Wilson has received some attention, it has been in a way he would really despise.
Shedeur Sanders, Coach Prime’s son, is slated to enter the NFL Draft next year and has caught the attention of numerous NFL organizations. However, according to Mark Kislza of the Denver Gazette, if Wilson becomes the starting quarterback this fall, the Broncos may draft Sanders with the first overall choice.
“If the Broncos decided to start the thoroughly wretched Wilson for 17 games, they’d be so bad that finishing with a 3-14 record would be a real possibility,” Kislza began by stating, “And then the Broncos could select Shedeur Sanders out of Colorado with the first overall pick in next year’s draft to become their franchise quarterback before Bo Nix ever takes a snap as a pro.”
A blistering take that may have fans and the rest of the media buzzing, but keep in mind that one person’s opinion does not influence the fate of the world. The results are determined on the field, and who knows if Wilson will show him incorrect.
What might we expect from Shedeur Sanders and Zach Wilson, respectively?
Sanders and Wilson share the experience of coming off losing seasons, with Shedeur in Boulder and Wilson serving as Aaron Rodgers’ emergency substitute. Both of these players are in ideal situations to improve their win-loss records, but Wilson isn’t assured to be the catalyst for the Broncos’ comeback in the Mile High City.
Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham are now ahead of him on the depth chart. Things change rapidly in football, however.
Kislza’s words, like those of the other NFL insiders and commentators, are ultimately subjective. Let the players’ performance speak for itself because that is the only proper thing to do in the world of sports.
