Before the rain arrived at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, numerous people predicted that the USA TODAY 301 would be over. As the rain neared, the racing became more difficult, with Kyle Larson pushing for the lead. Larson, on the other hand, never grabbed the lead, as Denny Hamlin overtook him at the exit of Turn 4. In the end, the rain did not cancel the event, but it did result in a spicy No. 5 radio.
Tyler Monn, Larson’s spotter, told the driver, “[Denny Hamlin] runs you like that every time. Do you know why? Because you allowed it to happen. Larson didn’t appear to like Monn’s comment and warned him to “shut the [expletive] up.” The No. 5 radio went dead, and Larson focused on making his way back up the field.
The driver of the No. 5 car finished fourth, while Hamlin battled with the Wet Weather tires, finishing 24th.
Larson and Hamlin had multiple on-track confrontations in the previous year, and emotions were high on the No. 5 squad. It remains to be seen whether Larson will ever race Hamlin again, but if Monn had his way, he would race him differently.
