According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Alvin Kamara wants to restructure his deal with the New Orleans Saints.
After Christian McCaffrey reset the running back market, Kamara could be in line for a new contract. However, there is little traction between the former Tennessee standout and the Saints.
This could result in a training camp holdout.
“Alvin Kamara, who has two years remaining on his contract, wants a reworked deal,” Fowler stated on SportsCenter. “The difficulty is that in 2025, he is owed $25 million in non-guaranteed funds. That is untenable for any side. As a result, Kamara would be willing to negotiate a modified two-year contract with better assurances. Christian McCaffrey recently signed with the 49ers, which may have reset the market for Kamar’s running back position slightly.

“There’s not much traction here between the two sides. They’ll attempt to work things out. But, you know, he didn’t show up for the final day of minicamp; perhaps he won’t show up for the first day of training camp.”
Kamara departed practice earlier this month over a contract issue, sending a message to the squad.
Alvin Kamara’s agent, Brad Cicala, acknowledged to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport that the running back’s absence from practice was contract-related. His agreement pays him $10.7 million this season, but his cap hit in 2025 is $25 million. Knowing that the Saints are unlikely to pay him the inflated compensation for the 2025 season, Kamara is requesting a contract modification.
In seven seasons with the Saints, Kamara has accumulated 5,829 running yards and 54 touchdowns. He also has 4,219 receiving yards and 23 touchdown receptions. In 2017, the Saints drafted him in the third round from Tennessee. In 13 games in 2023, he had 180 carries, 694 rushing yards, and five touchdowns, as well as 75 receptions, 466 receiving yards, and one additional touchdown.
Klint Kubiak, the Saints’ offensive coordinator, spoke on the star running back after practice Thursday.
“I’ve talked to him, and he’s been great,” Kubiak said. “I spoke to him on the phone even though he was gone. We’ve been constantly communicating.”
Players throughout the league are taking a stance during mandatory minicamps in an attempt to grease the wheels of new contracts. Players under contract who do not participate in camp, such as Kamara, face fines of up to $100,000.
