WORLDCLASS COMMITMENT: Four-star LB and NCAA Top LB Has Officially Choose Miami Football Over Other Major Programs

Gavin Nix of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, appeared to be planning to play collegiate football in his home state.

The four-star linebacker’s top three schools were Miami and Florida State, with one outlier, Oregon. The Ducks, now in the Big Ten, are a title contender, so it’s no surprise that they were high on Nix’s list, but with FSU and Miami also on the table, it appeared that Nix preferred to remain in Florida.

Ultimately, that will be the case, as Nix has declared his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes.
“They fit everything I valued throughout my process,” Nix told On3’s Steve Wiltfong about his decision. “They’ve been incredibly consistent for me. Their devotion for me has never faltered. Throughout the entire process, Miami was always there for me and made me and my family feel like family.”

Nix is a significant commitment for Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff. According to 247Sports, he is the No. 11 linebacker prospect in the 2025 class. He’s also ranked No. 88 in the top 100 recruits overall.

Nix was impressed not only by the Hurricanes’ coaching staff and Cristobal’s vision for the future, but also by the atmosphere at Miami and the strong, NFL-focused alumni base.

“What really shocked me different than any other school I’ve been to, the football alumni is always there,” Nix told the reporter. “When you visit Miami, you will always see some form of NFL legend, and they are actual individuals you can approach and talk to to learn more. Jon Beason, Jonathan Vilma, Rohan Marley, Calais Campbell, and Edgerrin James. You can just go up and talk to them, which really stood out to me.”

Miami Hurricanes expectations were overinflated in Cristobal's first year

Nix will be hoping to follow in such footsteps, and he believes he has the talent to do so. Last season, his junior year, he made 42 tackles (seven for loss), five quarterback hits, and one sack in eight games.
