What began as a potential breakout season for Yankees pitching prospect Clayton Beeter may end up being a wasted year due to injuries.
Beeter may miss the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman stated Tuesday afternoon at Tropicana Field.
Beeter, who has been on the disabled list since mid-May, will visit with Dr. Keith Meister shortly. At that point, Cashman said, the Yankees will have a better picture of Beeter’s schedule.
RESTORING GLORY
Beeter, the Yankees’ No. 13 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, made the Opening Day roster after throwing well in spring training. He made his MLB debut in Houston during the season’s first series, pitching a scoreless inning on March 29 against the Astros.
Beeter was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre the next day and went on to excel in the RailRiders’ rotation. Across seven starts, the righty had an impressive 2.53 ERA. Beeter was stopped down from throwing on May 15 due to shoulder soreness and placed on the 7-day disabled list.
The Yankees entered this season with a bunch of high-rated arms in Triple-A, but the first half of the season hasn’t gone as expected. Beeter is out for the foreseeable future, while Will Warren, the Yankees’ No. 7 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, has struggled immensely. Warren has a 6.64 ERA in 17 starts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
