Chris Paul’s move to San Antonio will be a significant transition for him in more ways than one.
ESPN’s Bobby Marks reported on Thursday that Paul’s new deal with the San Antonio Spurs includes one peculiar stipulation. Paul’s deal includes an incentive that will pay him an additional $262,000 if the Spurs finish the season with 32 or more wins.
Marks also claims that Paul’s deal with San Antonio includes seven further sets of bonuses. You can read the entire report here.
32 wins (nine games under.500) appears to be a relatively low threshold for the 12-time All-Star Paul, who has almost always been in title contention during his 19-year NBA career. However, it would be a significant improvement for the rebuilding Spurs, who have now gone 22-60 in successive seasons.
Now 39 years old and still hunting for his first NBA title, Paul recently explained why he selected San Antonio. Paul’s contract with the team includes a 32-win incentive, which demonstrates his changing priorities.
