The San Antonio Spurs are certain that they have found their point guard of the future to combine with Victor Wembanyama. This comes in the shape of No. 4 overall pick Stephon Castle, who is projected to be a powerhouse in the league in the near future.
However, the Spurs will have to wait a little longer as the 19-year-old’s preseason campaign was cut short due to an unlucky injury.
San Antonio Spurs News: Stephon Castle is Out for Summer League
Spurs insider Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express-News revealed on Sunday that the organization had chosen to remove Castle for the rest of the NBA Summer League. This comes after the 6-foot-6 point guard suffered a wrist injury during their previous game:
“Castle will miss the rest of Summer League after suffering a right wrist strain in Saturday’s win over Portland, according to the Spurs. “It’s a minor injury, but the Spurs won’t take any chances with the fourth overall pick,” Osborn wrote.
This is a shame, given Castle’s performance in the summer league. On Saturday, against the Blazers, the former UConn star scored 22 points on 8-of-21 shooting, adding five rebounds, four assists, a steal, and two triples to help San Antonio win 83-77.
According to the report, the injury is minimal, therefore there is no reason for fear. The Spurs are simply exercising caution with their star guard, as they should.
