In 2006, the New Orleans Saints selected Roman Harper, a quality safety from Alabama, with their second-round pick. Harper went on to play 124 games for the Saints, cementing his place in the franchise. While in New Orleans, he appeared in two Pro Bowls and contributed to the franchise’s first Super Bowl victory.
Harper did cross teams once, spending two years with the Carolina Panthers, but he returned to the Saints for his last season, spending nine years in New Orleans. He was also inducted into the Saints’ Hall of Fame in 2021.
Harper retired after 11 seasons in the league and has since become a constant television analyst. He’s a regular on the SEC Network’s football programming, which is understandable given his success at Alabama. Harper hinted about a potential return to the Saints during the 2024 SEC media week.
Harper told other media members that he might be spending some time with the Saints’ personnel during training camp.

Harper said that it is not yet official, but he has spoken with head coach Dennis Allen about working with the Saints for a week to help them prepare for the 2024 season. Harper stated that Allen is one of his favourite coaches, adding that both Allen and general manager Mickey Loomis have always encouraged Harper to help the franchise.
Harper has worked in the media since retiring, but this expertise might lead to a career as a coach or team analyst—he did not specify the function. Whatever it is, Harper is more than capable. His plethora of knowledge could undoubtedly benefit the Saints, particularly the outstanding defensive backs on their roster.
