BID CONFIRMED AND ALMOST DONE: Houston Astros Are Reportedly Very Close to Landing All-Star Infielder After Official Bid Was Accepted

After reaching the ALCS last season, the Houston Astros haven’t shown the same great form in 2024. Sure, the Astros are on course to win the division for the fourth season in a row, but their margin for error is razor-thin, with both the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers within striking distance.

One area that has been an issue is first base, where Jose Abreu has already been let go despite starting the season with an OPS of.361. Jon Singleton has received a lot of attention as a result of Abreu’s problems, but he is also struggling, with a.664 OPS.

However, the Astros are looking for a first-base upgrade before the MLB trade deadline on July 30.

Isaac Paredes is seen as a ‘great fit’ for Minute Maid Park
According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, the Houston Astros are looking to add more pitchers to their roster. But they’re also looking for hitters, and Isaac Paredes of the Tampa Bay Rays could be a perfect candidate.

“Although pitching remains their first goal, the Astros are looking into a range of offensive options. According to many sources, the organization is interested in Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Isaac Paredes, a pull-happy power threat who would fit wonderfully in the Crawford Boxes at Minute Maid Park.” Chandler Rome on the Houston Astros.

Isaac Paredes' two-run double

While Paredes mostly plays third base, he has appeared in 67 MLB games at first base since 2020. If traded, the Astros are expected to play Paredes at first base and maybe send him back to third base full-time as needed.
