COST A FORTUNE: Yankees Have Agreed a Deal To Sign Marlins All Star Pitcher In a Club Record Signing

The New York Yankees are looking to make a splash before the MLB trade deadline on July 30 at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, and one All-Star pitcher on their radar would cost them significant assets to acquire in a less-than-ideal world.

Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumours provided an update on Scott’s current contract status and how it will likely lead to his departure from Miami at the end of the season.

“The 30-year-old southpaw earns $5.7 million in his final year of arbitration. There are approximately $2 million in commitments for the stretch run. Scott might be looking at a three- or four-year contract next winter, so there’s a slim possibility he’ll stay in Miami after the deadline,” Franco wrote.

The Yankees might build a two-headed monster in the bullpen by trading for Marlins’ Tanner Scott.

Given that the first-time All-Star in 2024 is coming off of arbitration, he might be in line for a multi-year deal worth eight figures or more with whichever team he joins next. The Yankees might be a contender, trading for the Ohio native and re-signing him once his contract expires.

New York needs an exceptional reliever in their bullpen. If general manager Brian Cashman makes a trade for Scott, it’s unclear whether he’ll take over the ninth inning in the Bronx. Clay Holmes, the Yankees’ reigning 2024 All-Star, is currently closing the show with 21 saves and a 2.74 ERA, while Scott has 18 saves and a sparkling 1.18 ERA.

How much would the Yankees have to pay to acquire Scott before the trade deadline?
The expense of acquiring Scott would be high. According to ClutchPoints’ Ryan Bologna, the Marlins have a high asking price for their best reliever.

“‘They are asking for multiple prospects in the top 15′ of an organization’s depth chart, an anonymous executive said, according to The Athletic,” Bologna continued.

The Yankees have a promising and highly regarded farm system, with several possible future superstars in the top 15 on their prospect list. It remains to be seen whether they would be willing to trade up several of those assets in exchange for bullpen support. The Yankees are on the clock to make a deal, but it’s unlikely that they’ll unload their young talent for Scott’s asking price.
