The Chicago Cubs were busy over the weekend. Following their strategic bullpen acquisition of righty Nate Pearson on Saturday, the Cubs traded Christopher Morel and two prospects to Tampa Bay for third baseman Isaac Paredes. The movements have pushed the fan base into a frenzy, with many wondering what will happen in the remaining time before the trade deadline.
Unfortunately for the Cubs, Paredes has yet to join the squad as they begin a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds. According to sources, he will join the team later in the evening on Monday. Paredes is anticipated to settle in on Tuesday and maybe join the lineup for his Cubs debut.
Paredes will also wear No. 17 with the Cubs, the same number he wore in Tampa Bay. Kris Bryant, the 2016 National League MVP and current Colorado Rockies player, was the final player to wear No. 17 in Chicago.
Paredes’ debut will be a must-see event for Cubs fans everywhere. Fans will undoubtedly criticize his performance, particularly those who were sad to see Christopher Morel relocated.
Cubs’ Injury Updates
According to Megan Montemurro of the Chicago Sun-Times, Cody Bellinger is already hitting and should return to the Cubs soon. According to the source, he is expected to be activated “within days” and might return this weekend for the Cubs’ four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field.
Bellinger isn’t lighting the world on fire, but his return to the lineup, combined with the signing of Paredes, should boost the Cubs’ run production. Bellinger is the Cubs’ best hitter with runners in scoring position. Adding Paredes’ high-contact bat should form a formidable combo to boost the team’s offensive production.
Adbert Alzolay has had a setback in his recuperation. He will return to Chicago for additional evaluation. At this rate, Alzolay may not pitch again until 2025, similar to Yency Almonte, who had his season cut short after deciding to have surgery.
What’s Coming Up Next?
The Cubs will play the Reds in a three-game series starting Monday. Jameson Taillon is set to start for Chicago until his trade market picks up. If he is withdrawn from the starting rotation, the Cubs are said to have other pitchers ready to replace him. The first pitch on Monday is at 6:10 PM CT, and the game will be broadcast on Marquee Sports Network.
