MORE INCOMING: Mets In Another Blockbuster Trade That Would Make The Mets World Series Favourite

The New York Mets have been on a tear since June. David Stearns recently acquired an impact bat in a trade with the Washington Nationals for Jesse Winker. The right fielder is an ideal fit for the present lineup. Having said that, New York could use more pieces.

Any MLB team that makes it to the postseason can make magic happen. The 2019 Washington Nationals are a good example of just that. New York is in a fantastic position, but it could use more star power. With the trade deadline approaching, the Mets should look for someone who can put them over the top.

Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo are doing admirably, giving the Mets two stars at the top of the lineup. With the arrival of J.D. Martinez throughout the offseason, New York boasts a considerably deeper roster this season than last.

This season, the offence has been their main source of revenue. The arrival of Winker relieves pressure on players like Pete Alonso and Lindor. Winker has a.793 OPS and 11 HR this season. When you factor in the two young men at the bottom of the order, Mark Vientos and Francisco Alvarez, the Mets lineup appears to be set. Stearns has assembled a playoff-caliber squad, but it might benefit from a few more arms.

New York expected to get Kodai Senga back, and they did. Senga injured his calf last week while making his season debut. He will be out for the rest of the regular season due to his injury. Without Senga, they lack a legitimate ace.

The bullpen also lacks depth. Since returning from the IL, Edwin Diaz has allowed only one earned run. Stearns must find bullpen arms to replace Reed Garrett, Sean Reid-Foley, and other injured players.

Tanner Scott, the Miami Marlins’ catcher

Rumours are spreading as the trade deadline approaches tomorrow. According to Fansided’s Robert Murray, the Mets are interested in trading for Tanner Scott from the Miami Marlins. In 44 games this season, the 30-year-old has a 1.18 ERA and 53 strikeouts.
Pairing Diaz and Scott would provide the Mets with an exceptional backside bullpen. Diaz has a 0.93 ERA across his last ten outings. Based on his track record, it’s reasonable to believe New York’s superstar closer will continue to pitch well.

If Stearns can complete a trade for Scott, he will have an excellent bullpen. The 30-year-old would be ideal for their needs. Reid-Foley and Garrett should return shortly. If all four were healthy at once, the Mets would have a lockdown bullpen. Reid-Foley had a 1.66 ERA in 23 games this season, striking out 25. Before going down on the IL with elbow inflammation, Garrett earned 63 strikeouts with a 3.64 ERA across 36 appearances this season.

New York has a couple prospects that can be used to complete this trade. Luke Ritter is one candidate who they may utilize to emphasize the offer. The 27-year-old is having an excellent season with the Syracuse Mets of Triple-A. He has a.849 OPS with 19 home runs and 69 RBIs. Along with Ritter, they could feature Kevin Parada, a former first-round selection pick. The 22-year-old catcher has a high ceiling, yet the Mets already have Alvarez in the majors, obstructing his route.

With the Marlins looking to sell at the deadline, Stearns should call Scott. The Mets need all of the help they can get in the bullpen, and Scott would be an excellent addition.

Blake Snell, starting pitcher for the San Francisco Giants
According to SNY’s Andy Martino, the Mets have checked in on two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell. The San Francisco Giants are allegedly looking for top prospects in return.

Fortunately, New York has a couple elite prospects to include in a trade. Prospects like Luisangel Acuña, Ryan Clifford, Blake Tidwell, and Mike Vasil might form a winning combination. Acuña has 30 stolen bases in Triple-A this season and is hitting.275 in his last 10 games. Clifford has a.837 OPS across three minor league seasons and was selected 11th overall in the 2021 MLB Draft. Vasil and Tidwell have significant potential as starters.

Getting Snell would demand a big trade package. The Giants would be crazy to turn away any of the Mets’ finest prospects, and the reigning Cy Young winner is simply too wonderful to pass up.
In his last five outings, Snell has a 1.57 ERA and 37 strikeouts. He’s starting to throw like an ace again, and when he’s on his game, he’s one of the most feared starts in the league. Last season, the 31-year-old had an MLB-best 2.25 ERA and 234 strikeouts.

This season, Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, and Jose Quintana have all proven to be reliable starters. Senga was supposed to be their ace once he returned. However, this is no longer an option. Trading for Snell would give the Mets a true ace who could propel them to the top.
