After missing out on Dakorien Moore, a five-star receiver who committed to Oregon last month, the Texas Longhorns made up for it on Wednesday by signing five-star Sacshe (TX) wide Kaliq Lockett.
Lockett chose Texas over Texas A&M, Alabama, Florida State, and LSU.
That being said, given the Longhorns’ recent success in placing wide receivers in the NFL, which Lockett cited as a crucial component in his recruitment, it was only a matter of time before he opted to bring his talents to Austin.
“My plan is to go three years and done,” Lockett told On3 recently. “The school that I chose is the best way to be one of the best receivers in the country and to be a first-round receiver.”
Lockett was also extremely open about his appreciation for Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and receivers coach Chris Jackson.
“I know that if I go there, I know I’ll be successful and I know that Coach Jackson and Coach Sark will put me in the best position to win, and the best position to be one of the best receivers in college football,” Lockett told Jordan Scruggs of 247 Sports.
Lockett is currently ranked as the No. 17 player in the nation and the No. 3 wide receiver in the 2025 class. He has 59 receptions for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior for Sasche last season.
In his sophomore season, he recorded 29 catches for 492 yards and five touchdowns, and he earned varsity snaps as a rookie.
With Lockett’s commitment, Texas not only has their first wide receiver promise, but also their first five-star recruit.
Most importantly, the Longhorns have gotten off to a strong start in what is shaping up to be a key month of August, when many other five-star and four-star recruits will make decisions.
