The Edmonton Oilers and St. Louis Blues have finalized a deal minutes after the offer sheet deadline passed, and Stan Bowman did not match any of them.
Today, the St. Louis Blues formally announced the signing of RFAs Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway, one week after both received offer sheets that the Edmonton Oilers declined to match.
Immediately following the St. Louis Blues’ announcement that they had successfully signed Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg, a trade between the two teams was announced.
Paul Fischer, a 2023 fifth-round pick, was transferred to the Edmonton Oilers for future considerations. The Oilers also receive the Blues’ 2028 third-round pick in this transaction. The 19-year-old defenceman recently concluded with 16 points for Notre Dame.
The Oilers are going to miss Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg. Both players were first-round draft picks, with Broberg selecting eighth overall in 2019 and Holloway 14th overall in 2020.
Philip Broberg has appeared in 81 games for the Oilers, scoring two goals and adding 11 assists.
Dylan Holloway appeared in 89 more games than his teammate, scoring nine goals and assisting nine times.
The Edmonton Oilers did well overall, since it appears that they have now stockpiled quite a few draft picks after combining what they received for the two offer sheets and now this deal, and they also received a prospect. Stan Bowman did a pretty good job.
