HENDERSON, Nev. – The Las Vegas Raiders have bolstered their secondary by signing free-agent cornerback Darnay Holmes, the team announced on Wednesday.
Holmes, a seasoned defensive back, entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick (110th overall) by the New York Giants in 2020. Over his four seasons with the Giants, Holmes made a significant impact, appearing in 54 games and starting 11 of them. During his time in New York, he amassed 107 tackles, with 81 of them being solo efforts. Holmes also recorded four interceptions, 18 passes defensed, three tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery, showcasing his versatility and playmaking abilities on the field.
The Pasadena, California native honed his skills at UCLA, where he played for three years. During his collegiate career, Holmes appeared in 35 games, starting 33 of them. He was a key contributor to the Bruins’ defense, racking up 121 tackles, including 89 solo tackles. Additionally, Holmes demonstrated his knack for creating turnovers, recording eight interceptions, 28 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. His impressive performance in 2019 earned him All-Pac-12 honorable mention honors.
The addition of Holmes to the Raiders’ roster is expected to bring depth and experience to the cornerback position.
