The Pac-12 was not always recognized as a competitive football conference, nor were its fans known for their loudness and intensity. However, Cam Ward has come out swinging in defence of his old conference.
Ward started college at Incarnate Word before transferring to Washington State. Ward played for the Cougars in the Pac-12 from 2022 to 2023 before switching to Miami for the 2024 season as the Pac-12 collapsed.
Ward led the Hurricanes to a 41-17 victory over the Florida Gators at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla. on Saturday. After leading his side to an easy victory, Ward minimized the atmosphere at The Swamp.
“I played at USC. USC was not crowded, but it was louder than this. I played in Oregon, and it was louder than this. The Pac-12 is commonly mispronounced. I believe that the Pac-12 is where genuine football is played. “Washington was one of the loudest environments I’ve played in,” Ward remarked.
That’s a strong endorsement from the former Cougar.
Ward was one of college football’s most sought-after players following last season, and he demonstrated why on Saturday. He threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns as Miami cruised to win.
Miami plays Florida A&M next, and Ward believes their schedule is quite favourable at this time, especially since they play in such easy environments.
