Denzel Ward, a Cleveland Browns cornerback, sustained his sixth known concussion during training camp and was forced to miss the whole preseason. He is now in the concussion protocol, and his availability for Week 1 is still uncertain. Ward stated that he never considered retirement following the concussion. “I’ve done a lot of research and met with concussion specialists,” Ward informed the crowd. “They gave me the information I needed, so I’m not too concerned. I know people are concerned about the number and everything, but I can’t let it influence me.”I am still looking forward to getting back out there. “I am glad to be playing again.”
Ward stated that he talked with a neurologist and will use one of the new position-specific helmets to help prevent future concussions. With the Browns facing the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, Ward says he can’t let players like receiver CeeDee Lamb off the hook.
“I can’t let the receivers off that easy in this league,” Ward informed the crowd. “I’m looking forward to giving them a hard time.” He enjoyed the best year of his professional career last season, so it’s obvious how difficult it is to leave the game he loves.
Ward believes that the danger will eventually outweigh the gain, but for now, he intends to play next week.
