The Florida Gators, who lost 41-17 to the Miami Hurricanes in Week 1, face a formidable schedule for the remainder of the 2024 college football season.
Florida couldn’t get anything going against the U last Saturday, losing the season opener in shocking way and making Billy Napier’s future in Gainesville even more dubious.
Looking ahead, the Gators face probably the most difficult remaining schedule in the nation, with games against Texas A&M, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, LSU, Ole Miss, and Florida State still on the schedule. Five of Florida’s remaining games are against teams rated in the AP Top 25, three of which are in the top six.
This week, as Florida prepared to visit Samford – probably the only time the Gators will be favoured all season – Napier’s chances of accomplishing just enough to keep his job become increasingly difficult.
That’s because important player Kahleil Jackson, a redshirt junior wide receiver, has been diagnosed with an ACL injury and will miss the rest of the 2024 season.
According to On3, Jackson underwent surgery on Friday, and the injury most likely occurred during practice this week.
“Surgery went well. I appreciate everyone who checked in on me,” Jackson wrote on his Instagram story, accompanied with a red heart emoji.
Jackson had just one reception for 13 yards in the season-opening loss to Miami.
Last season, Jackson, a former 2020 recruit, had 21 receptions for 251 yards and one touchdown. He was expected to play a larger role in Florida’s offence this season, competing for playing time in a position where depth is essential.
Jackson’s father, Willie Jackson, was a former Florida receiver who played for Steve Spurrier in the early 1990s.
“He’s okay — doing well,” the older Jackson remarked of his son, according to On3. “We had to get (the surgery) done to try to get back next season.”
