The Detroit Lions are one of the best teams in the NFL, and they are hoping to finally make it to the Super Bowl after blowing a huge lead to the San Francisco 49ers in last year’s NFC championship.
The Lions had to wait more than eight months to get the bitter taste of defeat out of their mouth. They play their first regular season game since losing the NFC championship game on Sunday, and it will be against a familiar opponent.
On Sunday night football, Detroit will face the Los Angeles Rams, who are led by former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Nebraska Corn Huskers
Stafford played his first 12 seasons in Detroit before being sold to the Rams for quarterback Jared Goff and a few draft picks.
The Rams were extremely fortunate to acquire Stafford, as they went on to win the Super Bowl shortly after his acquisition, and last season, they attempted to do so again but were defeated in Detroit by his previous team in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
During the game, Matthew’s wife Kelly was present with her four children, and Lions fans booed them.
Kelly will not be there when the two meet this time, and she explained why on her podcast this week.
Kelly Stafford will not attend the Detroit Lions game on Sunday.
According to the New York Post, Kelly Stafford noted on her podcast The Morning She will then conduct a live program from Detroit on Saturday, September 7th, but will fly back home to Los Angeles immediately after to watch her husband play the Detroit Lions, so she will not be able to attend the game.
According to the New York Post, “Physically, I am not [attending the game in Detroit],” Kelly declared. “After our amazing, amazing live show [on Sept. 7 in Detroit], I’m going to hop on a plane and head home so I can watch it with my daughters here, so that’s the plan.”
It’s absurd to believe that Detroit Lions fans would boo Matthew Stafford’s wife and four children when they had nothing to do with Stafford’s move.
The transaction benefited both teams. The Rams acquired the veteran quarterback they needed to win a Super Bowl, while the Lions got a few draft selections and Jared Goff, which helped them become one of the top teams in the NFL.
It’s unfortunate that Kelly will miss her husband’s performance in their hometown because fans are unruly.
