San Diego, CA – In a surprising move that has sent shockwaves through the Padres community, team President of Baseball Operations, A.J. Preller, has issued an official statement confirming the decision to part ways with manager Mike Shildt. After a challenging season that saw the Padres struggle to meet expectations, the front office felt it was time for a significant change in leadership.
Preller’s statement, released on Tuesday morning, acknowledged the team’s disappointing performance and laid out the reasoning behind Shildt’s departure. Shildt, who took over the Padres’ managerial duties in 2023 after the departure of Bob Melvin, was expected to guide a star-studded roster to deep playoff runs.
