The Buffalo Bills cleared Josh Allen to play against the Miami Dolphins on September 12 after an injury scare to his non-throwing hand in the season opener, but the quarterback may be taking additional precautions to keep healthy before the game.
According to Syracuse.com, Allen donned a glove on his hand during the team’s September 10 practice.
“Josh Allen is fully participating in practice today.” Matt Parrino tweeted, “Here he is throwing,” alongside a video of Allen wearing a white safety glove. “He is wearing a glove on his left non-throwing hand. “This is the only media open portion viewing period of the week before Thursday night’s game against the Dolphins.”
Allen injured his hand on a fourth-quarter touchdown run in the team’s 34-28 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on September 8. He scrambled near the goal line and jumped over Cardinals safety Budda Baker, colliding with the end zone and fell on his left hand.
Allen completed the game with his hand taped and then underwent X-rays. The Bills have since approved him to play in week two.
Allen claimed he was alright.
“Just trying to be as normal as possible,” Allen told reporters following practice on September 10. “I felt like I threw it well today and was able to do all the things, so, ready to go.”

According to Andy Young of Spectrum News 1, Allen will not be limited in his ability to take photos with the new glove.
“HC Sean McDermott indicated Monday that he did not believe Allen would have any limits while taking shots from beneath centre,” Young wrote on X.
Allen was able to complete the victory over the Cardinals with no apparent constraints, rushing the ball twice and attempting three passes. Overall, he had a good performance in the team’s season-opening triumph, completing 18-of-23 passes for 232 yards and two passing touchdowns while also rushing for 39 yards and two scores.
He has previously dealt with problems, such as a shoulder injury that required him to adjust his throwing mechanics throughout the season last year.
Is Bills Quarterback More Cautious?
While the hand injury will not impede his ability to take plays, Allen may be extra cautious when running the ball against the Dolphins. The organization has emphasized the necessity for Allen to reduce the number of hits he absorbs, with Allen admitting after the Cardinals game that he can’t keep taking such severe hits.
“The first rushing touchdown, I kind of lowered my shoulder, knowing that was a corner,” the Bills quarterback told ESPN. “Second time, I knew it was Budda, and Budda’s a good player and he’ll lay the boom on you, so I decided to go up and over, but probably can’t make a living doing that, but here we are.”
On Thursday Night Football, the Bills will travel to Miami to face their division rivals, the Dolphins. Last season, the teams went down to the wire, with the Bills erasing a two-game division deficit in the last month and defeating the Dolphins in the series finale to win the AFC East.
