The Cleveland Browns’ defeat by the Dallas Cowboys in the first week of the 2024 NFL season is far from the biggest topic for their club as we enter week two.
Deshaun Watson has been accused of yet another sexual assault. This one, like the others, left supporters appalled with the facts of what allegedly occurred.
The NFL has already decided on its initial response to the fresh charges.
The NFL’s punishment for Deshaun Watson’s most recent sexual assault charge has been announced.
According to ESPN, the attorney for the woman in the civil suit accusing Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual assault and violence plans to talk with the NFL within two weeks.
According to the lawsuit, filed Monday in Harris County, Texas, the claimed actions took place in October 2020, before Watson and a woman, identified as Jane Doe in the court filing, were scheduled to eat dinner at the woman’s apartment. Watson was with the Houston Texans at the time.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his attorney, Rusty Hardin, Watson refuted the charges.
The NFL announced on Tuesday that it is evaluating the complaint under the personal conduct rules, but Watson will not be added to the commissioner’s exempt list because no official charges have been filed and the league’s study has only just begun.
“We will schedule a meeting with the NFL and hope to complete that within the next two weeks,” attorney Tony Buzbee wrote in an email. “We have a video and two more witnesses for the NFL to talk to. I’ve never believed in the NFL’s disciplinary procedure, but my client has chosen to use it.”
Watson and the Browns will face off against the Jaguars in Jacksonville on Sunday. When asked how he avoids being distracted, he stated that his “focus” is on football:
“I focus on keeping the main thing,” Watson remarked on Wednesday. “And that’s when I walk into this building focusing on being the best quarterback I can be, on the game plan and trying to be better than we were last week so we can get a W.”
The NFL and NFLPA suspended Watson for 11 regular season games without pay and fined him $5 million in 2022 following at least 24 civil complaints alleging that he sexually harassed or abused women during private massage treatments while playing for the Texans.
