JUST IN: “First Of Her Kind” Caitlin Clark Has Officailly Won Another WNBA Prestigious Award – The First Of it Kind

INDIANAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark, an Indiana Fever guard, was unanimously awarded the 2024 Associated Press WNBA Rookie of the Year, the league announced Thursday. Clark had previously been named four-time WNBA Rookie of the Month, three-time WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, and WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month in August. Clark joins Aliyah Boston as the only Fever players to win AP Rookie of the Year.

Clark was also named to the AP All-WNBA First Team, alongside Napheesa Collier, Breanna Stewart, Alyssa Thomas, and A’Ja Wilson. Kamilla Cardoso, Leonie Fiebich, Rickea Jackson, and Angel Reese were named to the Associated Press All-Rookie Team.

Clark started all 40 regular-season games for the Fever and enjoyed a historic rookie season, setting multiple WNBA records. Clark concluded the regular season as the rookie leader in scoring (19.2 ppg), field goals made (242), 3-point field goals made (122), assists (8.4 apg), steals (1.3 spg), and minutes (35.4 mpg). In addition to the rookie class, Clark led the league in assists (337) and three-pointers made. Clark set WNBA rookie records for points (769), assists, and three-point field goals. Her 769 points were not just the most ever recorded in a single season by a franchise player, but also by a point guard in WNBA history. In addition to points, Clark’s 337 assists eclipsed the previous single-season assist record of 316. Clark also had the most double-digit scoring games (35) of any rookie in team history, as well as the most double-doubles (14) in a season by a rookie guard in WNBA history.

 

Clark became the first WNBA rookie to record a triple-double, as well as the franchise’s first player to do so. Clark had 19 assists in Indiana’s first regular-season game against the Dallas Wings on July 17, setting a WNBA record. Clark also recorded the most games (12) with at least ten assists in franchise history. On July 20, Clark made her WNBA All-Star debut, becoming only the third rookie in team history to start a game. Clark had a game-high 10 assists in her 26 minutes of All-Star play, tying the second most in an All-Star game. Clark also received the most All-Star Game votes in WNBA history, totaling 700,735 votes. Clark made history in August by being the first player in league history to be named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month in the same month.

The Indiana Fever began postseason play against the Connecticut Sun in Game 1 of the 2024 WNBA Playoffs at Mohegan Sun Arena. Game 1 starts at 3 p.m. ET on ABC.
