SAD NEWS: “Saint Faces a Major Set Back”  Pro Bowler Will Miss an Extended Period After Suffering an Injury in Week 3

The health of the New Orleans Saints’ offensive line may decide the team’s success or failure. Terron Armstead and Andrus Peat have left, and Ryan Ramczyk has been injured, so the offensive line isn’t as dominant as it once was. They do, however, have a few good players and one promising young player.

The offensive line had a strong start to their first two games, and they moved up from 23rd to 15th in PFF’s Week 3 offensive line rankings. Unfortunately, they struggled in their 12-15 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3, surrendering 12 pressures, nine hurries, two hits, and one sack (PFF). To make matters worse, their greatest offensive lineman was injured.

The New Orleans Saints’ Pro Bowler left the first quarter with an injury.

New Orleans Saints, Erik McCoy
Erik McCoy, a Pro Bowl centre, had an apparent groin injury on the third snap of their first drive after Alvin Kamara rushed for an eight-yard gain on third and one. McCoy limped off the field and went into the medical tent for further assessment. He exited the tent with a brace on his left knee and headed to the dressing room. He did not return for the remainder of the game, as the Saints declared him out.

He will miss a lengthy period.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Erik McCoy’s groin injury would most likely necessitate surgery, and he will miss six to eight weeks, making him a potential injured reserve candidate. Although he will be out for a long amount of time, he is not expected to miss the remainder of 2024. The Saints will be without their best offensive lineman for the foreseeable being, which is never a good sign

Who replaces him in the centre?
Lucas Patrick will replace Erik McCoy at centre. When McCoy departed the game, he shifted from LG to C for the final 53 snaps, replacing Oli Udoh at LG. Patrick has a lot of starting experience at centre.

It’s unknown who will start at left guard. Although Udoh filled in, the Saints might also go with Nick Saldiveri or Landon Young. Both players have been injured, with Saldiveri dealing with a calf issue since the latter week of July and Young with a foot problem.
