The Las Vegas Raiders added John Samuel Shenker to their active roster on Saturday, the NFL franchise confirmed, putting the former Auburn tight end on track to make his NFL debut on Sunday.
Shenker joined Las Vegas as an undrafted rookie in May 2023. He has been with the team for the majority of that period, yet he has never appeared in an NFL regular season game. The Raiders face the Cleveland Browns at 3:25 p.m. CDT on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Last year, the Raiders added Shenker to their practice squad after releasing him during the preseason and regular season roster cuts. He spent the majority of the season there, but he was released twice, allowing him to spend one week on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad.
While Shenker was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday, two other former Auburn players were promoted from the NFL practice squads, making them eligible to play on Sunday.
The Arizona Cardinals have elevated Angelo Blackson to active status, putting the defensive tackle in position to participate in his 10th NFL season when they face the Washington Commanders at 3:05 p.m. CDT Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
For the third time in four games, the Chicago Bears promoted defensive tackle Byron Cowart from the practice squad to the active roster. He appeared in Chicago’s season-opening 24-17 win against the Tennessee Titans on September 8, as well as Sunday’s 21-16 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
The Bears will meet the Los Angeles Rams at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sunday at 12:00 CDT.
Cowart must be on the active roster after Sunday in order to play for the Bears again this season. Each NFL team can promote two players of its practice squad to active status for each game, but no player can be promoted more than three times.
