The Kansas City Chiefs are no strangers to changes at the skill positions. They’ve already been without top running back Isiah Pacheco (broken fibula) and top free-agent signing Hollywood Brown (shoulder injury) this season, and on Sunday, leading receiver Rashee Rice suffered what is believed to be a ruptured ACL. Rice had gotten off to a great start, with 24 catches for 288 yards in three games.
It will be difficult to duplicate that production with the Chiefs’ current roster. So, for the third year in a row, Kansas City is expected to make a move before the NFL’s trade deadline in November. Credit the FanDuel team for thinking big in that regard. In a post on Twitter/X on Monday, the gambling site proposed taking a major shot at Browns standout Amari Cooper, who is in the final year of a five-year, $100 million contract and may be willing to leave a Browns team that could be rebuilding.
As things stand, it could be the NFL accountants who say no to such a contract, as the Chiefs have less than $5 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap. If the Browns ate a large amount of Cooper’s remaining salary, the trade could work.
However, Cleveland may prefer to wait for a better return from the Chiefs if they are investing more money. Cooper is coming off his seventh Pro Bowl season, during which he caught 72 catches for 1,250 yards. However, the Browns have had a horrible 1-3 start to the season and are 30th in passing yards. Looking to cash out on Cooper–who has the potential to replace Rice–in exchange for Chiefs picks may be the prudent move for Cleveland.
