OFFICIALLY DONE DEAL: Falcon Officially Sign Former First Round Linebacker to Practice Squad

The Atlanta Falcons are coming off a thrilling last-second 26-24 win against the New Orleans Saints in Week 4, and it appears that they are starting to sort things out. However, there are still areas where they can improve, which is why they made an under-the-radar acquisition just a day after their stunning win against Southampton.

Falcons sign former first-round linebacker to practice squad

During their game against New Orleans, starter linebacker Troy Andersen had a knee injury, forcing him to leave early. Given that two of their other inside linebackers, Nate Landman and Milo Eifler, are already on the injured reserve, losing Andersen for an extended period of time would be devastating, so in the event he has to miss time, the team has reunited with one of their former linebackers, Rashaan Evans, by signing him to the practice squad.

“Former first-round pick LB Rashaan Evans former is returning to Atlanta and signing with the Falcons practice squad, per source.”

Evans made his NFL debut with the Tennessee Titans as the 22nd overall choice in the 2018 NFL Draft, where he spent four successful seasons before joining the Falcons in 2022. Despite racking up 159 tackles for Atlanta that season, Evans only made it to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad in 2023, before being cut and subsequently picked up by the Dallas Cowboys, who released him in December after being arrested for possession of marijuana.

Evans has had a terrible couple of seasons, but he now has an opportunity to get back on track with the Falcons, with whom he is familiar. If Andersen is unable to play in the coming weeks, he is likely to be called up right away, making him a player to keep an eye on. This move carries little risk for the Falcons, and if all goes well, Evans might emerge as a crucial element of their defence in the future.
