The Denver Broncos are 2-2 with a rookie quarterback, Bo Nix. Their defence is among the best in the NFL after four weeks. However, the offence has left points on the field, and a deal may provide a necessary boost.
Nix set a record for the fewest yards per attempt in Week 4 against the New York Jets. Another high-end contributor could provide a solution.
“Many Broncos fans are speculating on Amari Cooper as a potential trade target, but I strongly disagree.” Personally, I would be looking at Atlanta and Kyle Pitts. On September 30, Benjamin Allbright from KOA posted on X.
Pitts is a polarizing player. He is the highest-drafted tight end in NFL history, selected by the Falcons with the fourth overall choice in the 2021 draft.
“Pittsburgh has had a few of difficult seasons and is not off to a good start this year. However, he can be a dynamic player at the position, something Sean Payton values in his offence. Pitts is a dynamic athlete who can create all kinds of mismatches and play the role that the Broncos hoped Greg Dulcich would develop into but failed to do,” Sports Illustrated’s Chad Jensen and Erick Trickel wrote on October 1.
“While he is not a blocker, Pitts can be used as a classic Y tight end, he can be moved around the formation. The Broncos need that explosive player on offence to assist a struggling passing game this season.”
Kyle Pitts Could Make A Dynamic Trade Target for the Broncos.
The Broncos are sixth in passing attempts, 27th in yards, and 32nd in passing touchdowns this season. Dulcich and his teammates tight ends have 8 catches for 47 yards on 17 targets so far.
The 6-foot-6, 246-pound tight end is also in the penultimate year of a four-year, $32.9 million contract, with a $10 million fifth-year option due in 2025.
Pitts may play the dynamic “joker role” on the Broncos’ offence.
It is a job that the head coach envisioned for Dulcich, and Pitts may be an excellent fit. He would get the ball in his hands in novel ways, allowing him to showcase his distinct athletic abilities.
Pitts was also drafted by a prior regime, and the current one isn’t very bothered with his statistical performance.
Kyle Pitts Trending Down With Falcons
Pitts made the Pro Bowl as a rookie, recording 68 catches, 1,026 yards, and one touchdown. However, he had an 81-1023-5 record across 27 games in 2022 and 2023. He has eight catches for 105 yards and one touchdown through four weeks of 2024.
He didn’t catch any of his three targets in the Falcons’ Week 4 win against the New Orleans Saints, and Pro Football Focus has given him the lowest grade of his career.
Falcons head coach Raheem Morris isn’t concerned about Pitts’ lack of productivity thus far.
“Those things are always unfortunate,” Morris told reporters on September 29 about Pitts’ stats against the Saints. “But statistics are for losers, man. I don’t get involved with those things. But you go out there and try to win every game. And we did win it today.”
Payton’s offences have previously produced stars of tight ends who converted from other positions, like as Jimmy Graham. If the Broncos trade for Pitts, he would be the most talented prospect the head coach has had at the position since the five-time Pro Bowler retired.
