HUGE UPDATE: Bills Have Officially Agreed a Blockbuster Trade With Another Pro Bowl WR Amid Davante Adams Rumors

The Buffalo Bills may need some wide receiver help at the same time that All-Pro Davante Adams appears to be on the trading block.

Many believe it’s a match made in heaven, giving quarterback Josh Allen a new legitimate No. 1 target following Stefon Diggs’ departure last offseason.

One analyst disagrees. According to SI.com’s Ralph Ventre, the Bills should instead target Amari Cooper, a former Pro Bowl wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns. According to Ventre, Cooper would likely cost less than the second-round selection that the Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly asking for in exchange for Adams.

“As the Cleveland Browns (1-3) fall further away from contention, veteran Amari Cooper may become available,” Ventre wrote in an October 2 report. “His price would undoubtedly be no more than a second-round pick, and even that appears to be a stretch. Cleveland acquired Cooper for effectively a fifth-round pick in 2022.”

Bills May Not Be Content for Davante Adams.

Though numerous insiders have identified the Bills as a viable trade partner for the Raiders, Ventre pointed out that they do not meet Adams’ preferred requirements.

“Rumours suggest that Adams wants to play with a quarterback who he is already familiar with, making the New York Jets’ Aaron Rodgers and the New Orleans Saints’ Derek Carr two prime candidates,” the author said.

Ventre said that the Bills would face “too many hurdles” in pursuing Adams, and that Cooper might be a better option if they want to improve their wide receiving corps.

Cooper is coming off a season in which he had 72 receptions for 1,250 yards and 5 touchdowns on a Browns offence that struggled at times. Despite his poor start this season, Cooper has 16 receptions for 140 yards and two scores.

The most significant consideration, according to Ventre, is the price.

“If acquired today, Cooper would require less than $1 million in salary cap space according to Spotrac,” Ventre explained. “It seems doable and Bills’ general manager Brandon Beane would be smart to get it done.”

Bills looking for top receiver.

Following the losses of Diggs and No. 2 receiver Gabe Davis last summer, the Bills adopted an approach of “everybody eats,” dispersing targets to a wide range of receivers.

While the technique has worked in spreading the ball about — five guys have eight or more receptions — there is no clear top receiver, and none is on track to exceed 1,000 yards. Khalil Shakir, the team’s leading returning wide receiver, has 18 grabs for 230 yards and two scores.

The group fell flat in Buffalo’s 35-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, as ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg noted that the team’s passing game struggled against an active defence.

“After putting up 30-plus points in the first three games, this was a relative no-show,” says Getzenberg. “The Bills’ 41-game streak of scoring more than 10 points in a regular-season game has ended, making it the NFL’s longest active streak. The offence was 2-11 on third down, with Allen completing 16 of 29 passes (55.2%), a decrease from his 75% average to begin the season. Allen was pressed on 44.1% of throws and sacked three times, adding to his season total of two sacks.
