The Broncos selected Nix 12th overall in the 2024 draft.
“They won two games with him as the quarterback – but he hasn’t played great,” Davis told RG.org’s DJ Siddiqi in an interview released on October 4. “Some people are viewing it and saying, ‘OK, I know it’s in there, but I want to see it. I need to see that top-12 draft pick. You don’t see it in every game. It does not occur on a consistent basis. There’s some concern till I see it.
Nix, the NCAA’s all-time leader in starts and completion percentage, has completed 60.1% of his passes for 660 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions after four weeks.
Nix set a modern-era record for the lowest average yards per attempt (minimum of 25 attempts) in the Broncos’ 10-9 victory over the New York Jets in Week 4. That game was played in terrible weather, but Davis has been unimpressed with Nix thus far.

Davis highlighted Nix’s lack of touchdown passes. He also mentioned the rookie’s two rushing scores. Nix is the Broncos’ second-leading rusher, totaling 110 yards on 23 carries. In Week 4, running back Javonte Williams gained more yardage than him.
But Davis, a Broncos legend, believes Nix and the offence are not scoring enough.
Davis stated that Nix is “doing little things,” such as making nice throws and occasionally moving the ball. However, some are “head scratchers” and “problematic,” forcing Davis to wait and see.
“I don’t really know what the reason is, it’s always a combination of things,” Davis replied to Siddiqi. “It is never one thing. I am not forgetting that he is a young quarterback, therefore I am allowing him to say so. But when I watch a quarterback, I want to see his throws. I’d like to see glimpses of the 12th overall choice.
Davis said he wasn’t worried yet, despite a shaky supporting cast and running game.
Broncos Offence Under the Microscope In Week 4, ESPN’s Jeff Legwold highlighted the Broncos’ offensive woes, citing Nix’s “expected growing pains.” The Broncos are tied for 32nd on offence with four touchdowns, among other low ranks.
“They also rank 27th in total offence (266.0 yards per game), 27th in passing (159.8 YPG), 31st in third-down conversion rate (24.6%), and tied for last in red zone touchdown percentage (33.3%). Coach Sean Payton has been critical of the Broncos’ run game all season, but at 20th in the league (106.3 YPG), the mediocre rushing production might really be the best thing the offence has going right now.” Legwold wrote on October 5.
“Getting [Nix] on track will be critical to hitting the end zone and securing those crucial divisional wins.
Nix has evaded dismissal, but Legwold details his bad individual numbers as well.
“His overall football life has been difficult,” Legwold noted. “He is 20th in QBR (49.5), 32nd in yards per completion (8.0), 29th in completion percentage (60.1%) and tied for 34th in touchdown passes (1).”
