The Jets experiment has been equally disastrous as the Adams attempt in Las Vegas. While many still anticipate New York to go all in on Rodgers, it may be time to reconsider. The Raiders need a quarterback, and Adams wants to play beside Rodgers.
If the Jets do not believe they can win this season, trading the iconic quarterback could be a wise decision. At this point, it’s difficult to see the price of trading for Rodgers being too high. A third- or fourth-round choice might suffice.
The Raiders would finally have a quarterback capable of keeping them afloat, while also appeasing Adams. The Jets could finally embrace youth on the squad and commit to choosing a quarterback next year.
The Jets still want to trade for Adams.
The Jets are plainly a mess right now, and they appear to be moving in the wrong way. However, this has been the situation for more than ten years. While the organization should try to move Rodgers and focus on rebuilding, they will most likely stick with the quarterback.
Despite Saleh’s firing, NFL analyst Jordan Schultz believes the Jets will continue to try to trade for Adams. It is possible that Saleh was the problem and that interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich would turn things around, but this appears improbable.
Trading draft picks for an older wide receiver is hardly a good move, but it looks to be what New York wants. The Jets are arguably the greatest option for the Raiders to deal Adams because they will most likely have the highest draft pick among the interested teams.
Can Rodgers Save the Raiders?
The Raiders have been in quarterback purgatory since benching Derek Carr for the 2022 season. They tried replacing him with Jimmy Garoppolo, which failed miserably, and Gardner Minshew hasn’t performed well this season.
If the Raiders want to succeed this season, they must improve their quarterback play. Rodgers hasn’t played well this season, but he’d be a significant boost over Minshew. He also spent years working with Raiders offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, so he should have a smooth transition to the offence.
Nonetheless, the Raiders are in the same boat as the Jets. They should focus on identifying a future quarterback. Having Rodgers in Las Vegas and convincing Adams not to trade would definitely make for wonderful television, but they are still not a Super Bowl contender. Trading for Rodgers appears to be a desperate move, and general manager Tom Telesco is unlikely to be so desperate just yet.
