The Green Bay Packers will face the Arizona Cardinals at Lambeau Field in Week Six on Sunday. The Packers, who are 3-2, are hoping for their second straight win after upsetting the Los Angeles Rams on the road this past Sunday. Green Bay had not defeated the Rams in Los Angeles since 1966.
Unlike their triumph over the Rams, the Packers will field at least one of their starting wide outs against the Cardinals. Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs did not perform in Los Angeles. Watson was sidelined with an ankle injury, while Doubs had been suspended by the Packers for conduct detrimental to the organization.
Romeo Doubs, a Green Bay Packers wide receiver, missed two days of practice last week.
Doubs did not attend the Packers’ practice on Thursday or Friday after participating fully on Wednesday of last week. At the time, head coach Matt LaFleur explained that it was for personal reasons.
However, Sports Illustrated’s Bill Huber reported late last week that Doubs skipped practice because he was dissatisfied with his role on offence. This report perplexed many fans because Doubs has always been portrayed as a team player.
The Packers did not confirm or deny the allegation. However, Doubs was suspended for the game against the Rams in his hometown of Los Angeles.
While the squad won, fans couldn’t shake the impression that there was more to the Doubs incident than they were aware of. And they were correct.
On Friday, the third-year wide receiver spoke to the media for the first time since his suspension.
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs breaks silence on suspension.
According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, Doubs stated, “I had some things going on mentally.” He later assured reporters that his mental health is good.
“I needed to make sure I could reunite the family. I’d say there were some things going on off the field, but as far as the organization, staff, and players, there’s nothing going on in that area, so I just wanted to make that clear.”
In other words, Huber’s sources who told him Doubs was dissatisfied with his position on the squad gave him incorrect information.
“It’s an excellent offence here. We’ve got several ball players in our room. It is far more than just me discovering my role. In this competition, it’s only about winning football games.
So, what was the reason for his absence? Doubts did not want to reveal the answer, which is his right. It was personal. Those that need to know already know.
“It’s not as large as they think it is. I understand that tales are continually being produced. Hearing it from me, it didn’t seem like a huge deal. There are certain personal issues I’m dealing with. I just needed to make sure I had it under control.”
The focus is now on Sunday and the Cardinals. The Packers, like Doubs, are moving on from the circumstance.
