On Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers added veteran outfielder Kevin Kiermaier and right-handed pitcher Brent Honeywell Jr. to their National League Championship Series roster.
The National League Division Series between the New York Mets and the Dodgers begins Sunday night in Los Angeles.
Kiermaier and Honeywell are injured replacements at shortstop. Miguel Rojas and lefty Alex Vesia.
Vesiadeparted Game 5 of the National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres while warming up before the eighth inning. According to manager Dave Roberts, Vesia had an injury to the intercostal muscles, which are located between the ribs.
Roberts will have only one left-handed pitcher available: Anthony Banda. However, right-hander Michael Kopech has been good against left-handed hitters.
Rojas was limited in the NLDS due to a torn left adductor muscle, which he worsened during the regular season’s final homestand. He had been playing with groin pain in September.
The Dodgers acquired Kiermaier, 34, from the Toronto Blue Jays at the July trade deadline. He played in 34 games but only had 59 at-bats while batting.203 with one home run, eight RBIs, and seven runs.
Kiermaier, a four-time Gold Glove winner, is anticipated to serve as a defensive replacement and add depth to the outfield, with Tommy Edman moving from centre field to shortstop in Rojas’ absence.
Honeywell, 29, was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates via waivers in July. He was 1-1 with a 2.62 ERA in 18 games (one start) and 34 1/3 innings.
The Los Angeles pitching rotation also includes right-handers Ben Casparius, who replaced Michael Grove in the NLDS, and Edgardo Henriquez, who has only three regular-season games and one NLDS appearance.
The Dodgers have 13 pitchers and 13 position players on their NLCS roster.
