The Washington Commanders are off to a great start in 2024. They’re 4-2 in their first six games and now lead the NFC East. Jayden Daniels, a rookie quarterback, has exceeded all expectations as the starter and has appeared to be a veteran at times.
His performance has made Washington a top destination for outstanding athletes. One of them may end up in the nation’s capital very soon.

Marcus Mosher of the 33rd Team detailed how standout wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins could end up in Washington.
The Washington Commanders currently hold a 1.5-game lead in the NFC East, and this appears to be their division to lose. The Cowboys are a wreck, and the Eagles have serious difficulties on both sides of the ball. Sitting at 4-2, the Commanders have a relatively light schedule the rest of the season, and 10 or more wins are likely possible.
Through six weeks, Washington has been one of the league’s top offences (29.7 points per game), but its passing offence has been carried by Terry McLaurin, Zach Ertz, and Austin Ekeler. All three players are at least 29 years old, and Ertz and Ekeler have a history of injuries. Jayden Daniels would greatly benefit from having another receiver who can beat 1-on-1 coverage.
DeAndre Hopkins is the best receiver who might be able to, but he is stuck in one of the league’s worst pass offences. The Titans are 1-5, and it’s evident that they have no chance of making a second-half push to the playoffs. While they are unlikely to be “sellers” at the deadline, selling Hopkins, who is 32 years old, makes sense as they strive to rebuild the offence.
Another reason this fit makes sense is that Hopkins had previously played in Kliff Kingsbury’s offence while he was the head coach at Arizona. Hopkins enjoyed playing with Kingsbury, averaging nearly 80 receiving yards per game in their final season together (2022).
Hopkins is no longer capable of posting such large figures, but the Commanders do not require him to do so. They just need him to be a steady No. 2 receiver, which he can still accomplish.
