Alabama’s football team lost its second game of the season, this time against Tennessee on the road in a difficult SEC duel. The Volunteers won 24-17 versus Alabama, but have now lost two SEC games, the other against Vanderbilt.
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, who came into the season with high expectations, has been a disappointment so far. Milroe has passed for 1,722 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions in the first seven games of the season, but the Crimson Tide has also scored 11 times on the ground.
Milroe completed only 25 of 45 passes for 239 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the loss to Tennessee.
According to Nick Kelly of AL.com, Alabama football head coach Kalen DeBoer has denied any Milroe injury claims.
“There’s nothing that is going to be holding him back from being able to go out there,” DeBoer told reporters.
DeBoer did note that everyone who plays a lot of snaps is having some difficulty at this point in the season.
Nonetheless, Alabama doesn’t have much time to sulk, as another difficult opponent awaits in Week 9. The Crimson Tide will face Missouri in Tuscaloosa before taking a much-needed Week 10 bye.
In terms of recent play, Milroe has thrown an interception in each of the last four games and only one score in the last three. He started the season with eight touchdowns and zero interceptions in the first three games combined, so it’s been an unusual turn of events for the Alabama quarterback.
Despite this, DeBoer says that there is no cause for concern over Milroe’s injuries. Following the bye, Alabama meets LSU before an easier run that includes games against Mercer, Oklahoma, and Auburn, thus the next four weeks might determine Alabama’s playoff position.
