The Washington Commanders have been one of the NFL’s hottest teams, with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels appearing like the real deal and a favourite for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
The Commanders have won five of their first seven games, thanks to Daniels’ strong play, which is impressive for a team that underwent a full revamp this summer.
Unfortunately, Daniels suffered a rib injury during Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers.
Marcus Mariota, a veteran backup quarterback, came in and guided the Commanders to an easy victory, completing two touchdown passes.
Mariota may see more playing time in the future, since Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said Daniels is considered “week-to-week” with his injury.
“We’re hopeful he’ll play (in Week 8),” Quinn told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
This is fantastic news for the Commanders because Daniels averted a serious injury that would need him to miss significant time.
However, it is unclear whether the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft will be eligible for a key game against No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears in Week 8.
It’s a game Daniels most likely had marked on his calendar, with the chance to prove he’s the greatest quarterback in this year’s draft class.
