The NFL trade deadline is less than two weeks away, and teams trying to prepare for their playoff run will be making trades. A few players from teams out of contention have already been mentioned in trade rumours, and one player in particular would be a great target for the Green Bay Packers: Za’Darius Smith.
Smith is a former Packer who played two strong seasons in Green Bay before going on to Minnesota and Cleveland. With the Browns in complete disarray, they could try to move Smith before the deadline, while Green Bay could look to bring him back home.
Smith, 32, has four sacks in seven games and plays 56 percent of the snaps. This may not appear to be a particularly amazing amount, but when contrasted to the Packers’ production in this department, and given that he would be the team leader, this plan becomes much more intriguing.
Za’Darius Smith might help the Packers win a difficult NFC North.
When looking around the NFC North, it’s evident that the division is strong. There is no team with more than two losses, and the remaining games in the division will undoubtedly be bloodbaths.
That is why it is critical for the Packers to pursue every opportunity to enhance their roster and get every edge they can. Bringing in a productive and proven pass rusher like Smith might make the difference they need.
Even if Smith plays at a similar level and takes the same number of snaps, the Packers’ defence would be better off with him in the lineup.
Green Bay does not need him to be a star, but rather someone who can contribute to the defense’s success and has previously played there. Smith hits both boxes and would be a valuable addition to a Packers defence aiming to wreak havoc on their division opponents.
