The Detroit Lions are anticipated to make a big statement right before the NFL trade deadline, which is only two days away. A purported blockbuster deal between the Lions and the Cleveland Browns is expected to take place on Sunday evening, and Lions supporters are ecstatic about the moves that their general manager, Brad Holmes, has made.
Detroit Lions Set to Add Huge Defensive Piece.
A new report suggests that a trade between the Browns and Lions is nearing completion. While not as stunning as Mike Tannenbaum’s Myles Garrett trade proposal on ESPN last Friday, it is still a significant move for both organizations.
According to sources, Detroit is in the process of acquiring a pass rusher from Cleveland, which might strengthen their defensive lineup. This deal might help the Lions improve their edge presence as they fight for the playoffs, while also allowing Cleveland to reallocate resources as the season unfolds.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Browns and Lions have been considering a deal for veteran outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith, and “the expectation” is that it will happen.
“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the current expectation is that Smith will be traded to Detroit tonight or tomorrow,” according to Florio.
“Yes, the Lions and Browns have discussed a potential trade for defensive end Za’Darius Smith.,” Florio noted in an email. “At this point, the expectation is that it will go beyond just talking. According to a person familiar with the situation, Smith is expected to be moved to Detroit tonight or tomorrow.
Smith, 32, is now playing for the Browns against the Los Angeles Chargers this afternoon and has made one tackle and half a sack.
The Detroit fan base has been ecstatic with the move, and many of them have taken to social media to show their appreciation for general manager Holmes, who has been spot on with his decisions and has the Lions looking like the greatest team in the NFC.
One Lions fan inquired, “Can he get to Green Bay before 4pm?”
“I think Detroit still needs one more piece other than Za-Darius,” another person stated.
“The Browns are having a going out of business sale,” a third individual commented.
“Great move by Brad Holmes,” added a fourth reviewer.
“He’s 32. “I hope we don’t sell the farm for him,” one Lions supporter commented.
Since standout pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson suffered a season-ending leg injury against the Cowboys on October 13, the Lions have been looking for a successor to boost their pass rush. While no trade acquisition can match Hutchinson’s effect, Detroit requires defensive reinforcements to improve its Super Bowl chances. Detroit is currently 6-1 and leads the NFC by half a game over the Packers and Commanders, but they face a key game against Green Bay today.
