Nix’s performance and developing relationship with No. 1 wide receiver Courtland Sutton sent a strong message to the latter. It was a reaction to Nix’s touchdown reception from Sutton in Week 9’s loss to the Ravens.
“You are HIM,” Sutton wrote on Instagram on November 5.
The play marked Nix’s first touchdown reception as well as Sutton’s first touchdown pass, and the latter has been a big fan of Nix since he was chosen in April.
Courtland Sutton is a Big Bo Nix Supporter.
“I was excited to see that we were going to be able to work with him,” Sutton stated on the “DNVR Broncos Podcast” in June. “He excels at a variety of tasks on the field. And I’m excited to be able to work with him because he has that leader mindset, that aura that he exudes.
“Just based on what I saw at Oregon, watching him carry and lead his team, and seeing how those guys followed him. I think it revealed a lot about who he is and how he conducts himself.”
Sutton also received Nix’s first touchdown throw, which he commemorated.
“1st of many,” Sutton wrote in the caption of a still photo of the duo following the score on his Instagram story on September 29.
“It was cool to be able to share that moment with Bo,” Sutton told NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo on September 29. “It’s his first of many. The man will be a great player in this league for a long time. And being able to share a piece of history with him is very nice.
“After I caught the touchdown, the first thing I wanted to do was give him the ball. I wanted to make sure the ball didn’t go anywhere. And I’m delighted he got it, and we were able to win.”
Courtland Sutton Embraces Role as Broncos Vocal Leader
Sutton, now in his seventh season, has moved on from the offseason’s contact concerns. He has continued to embrace his role as team leader.
“I told the guys, ‘Man, when we were kids, we would have begged to be able to go outside and play football in the rain.'” “So it was a cool experience,” Sutton said after the Broncos defeated the New York Jets in Week 4. “Happy to watch the guys go out there and ball out and us be able to come away with a win.”
Sutton has one more season left on his deal.
To conclude his offseason holdout, he restructured his four-year, $60 million contract into a two-year, $27.5 million deal. But Sutton faces a $20 million ceiling in 2025. He and the Broncos might be in a similar predicament at the end of the season.
