ORIGINAL STORY
Jayden Daniels had another excellent effort against the Giants this week, though it may have appeared unremarkable because it had only two or three terrific passes and no particularly memorable runs. This week, with the Commanders never trailing and in possession of the ball for the final 2:46, the ending was quite anticlimactic, and the outcome was never in doubt. Still, the rookie quarterback had an excellent effort.
Daniels protected the ball as usual, with no fumbles or interceptions in this road game against the Giants; in fact, he has only two turnovers on 524 offensive plays this season and has not had an interception since the Week 5 game against the Browns. Washington’s very low turnover total of three through nine weeks of play is only one of many records associated with Daniels’ debut season and the Commanders’ overall success.
Daniels completed 68.2% of his throws this week, and his yards per attempt average (9.5) was the season’s second-highest (after 11.0 against Cincinnati in Week 3).
He got 209 yards and two touchdowns passing (128.8 passer rating) and 35 yards rushing.
Thanks to solid blocking by his offensive line, Daniels avoided being sacked by the Giants, who entered the game with the most sacks in the NFL. Surprisingly, and thanks in part to Daniels’ exceptional pocket awareness and movement, New York was one of only three NFL defences kept without a sack this week.
The second touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin, which began with 11 seconds left in the first half, was likely the most remarkable pass of the game.
Noah Brown caught another fantastic ball, this time a wonderful stacked toss down the middle of the field.
Last week, former All-Pro linebacker JJ Watt argued that Jayden Daniels should be more than simply Rookie of the Week or FedEx Air Player of the Week; he should be the leading candidate for the NFL regular season MVP award.
Alex Smith, a retired quarterback, argues that Jayden Daniels is the most dynamic and entertaining rookie quarterback in the league after witnessing him play against Caleb Williams in the same game.
Kyle Brandt: We need people to see Jayden Daniels because he is the best thing going right now – the coolest, most entertaining, and most amazing thing. The best show right now! It’s not the Vikings or the Chiefs; it’s the Commanders’ offence, as a whole, and I’ve never stated that before.
Daniels’ stellar play has helped the Commanders capture and maintain exclusive control of first place in the NFC East after nine weeks of competition.
