Kansas City, Missouri — It seems that the Broncos done everything correctly. The Broncos played the game they wanted to play in a road test against the reigning back-to-back Super Bowl champions.
In one of his best games of the season, quarterback Bo Nix tossed two touchdown passes as they ran out to a 14-3 first-half lead over the undefeated Chiefs. Late in the fourth quarter, they kept the game within striking distance and limited Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City to 1-of-4 in the red zone.On third down, the Broncos were more effective. They were better at running the ball. It was not turned over. And on the last drive of the afternoon, when Nix and the Broncos were down for the first time, he and theFollowing the game, head coach Sean Payton remarked, “It really played out exactly as we wanted it to.” “Exactly. has total control over everything, including the ball and the clock.”The kick was then stopped.
The Broncos were left to ponder a 16–14 defeat in which Denver appeared to be in control for long periods of the game, while the Chiefs bench poured onto the field in celebration.
Payton remarked, “Obviously, a tough loss,” “We performed well on the trip, in my opinion. We didn’t finish, but I thought we outplayed them. At the very end, we had a chance to. We need to be able to finish since we sort of controlled the ball. It will take some time [to recover] from that one. It will hurt.
There were several difficult parts of the game. A Nik Bonitto sack was nullified by an improper contact call on Brandon Jones prior to halftime, which allowed the Chiefs to prolong their drive. As their 60-yard field goal attempt failed at the end of the first half, the Broncos led 14-10 instead of 14-3 and had an opportunity to add additional points before halftime. Promising offensive drives were occasionally thwarted by penalties or sacks during the Broncos’ scoreless second half. Denver kept Mahomes mostly in check, but on a third-and-13, he escaped what appeared to be a certain Bonitto sack and then completed a 35-yard pass to Samaje Perine, setting up another Chiefs touchdown.
