The NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 10 is Detroit Lions kicker Jake Bates. Bates was clutch in the fourth quarter of Detroit’s 26-23 triumph over the Houston Texans on “Sunday Night Football,” making a career-long 58-yard field goal with approximately five minutes left to tie the game, followed by a 52-yard of goal as time expired. This is Bates’ second weekly award win. He won it in Week 7 against the Minnesota Vikings with his first career game-winning kick.
The 25-year-old has been spectacular in his first NFL season, kicking all 14 field goals, including three from 50 yards or more. Bates has also converted 32 of 33 extra-point tries in nine games.
This week’s honour increases Detroit’s total weekly accolades to six for the season. Week Three: P. Jack Fox Week 4: quarterback Jared Goff Week Six: S. Brian Branch Week 7: K. Jake Bates Week 8: PR Kalif Raymond.
Week Ten: K. Jake Bates The Lions also have two players who have garnered monthly awards: defensive end Aidan Hutchinson was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month in September, while Goff was selected NFC Offensive Player of the Month in October. The Lions will next face the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-8) on Sunday at 12:00 CT.
