The 2024 season has not been kind to Maxx Crosby and the Las Vegas Raiders, who have slumped to 2-7 and are bottom in the AFC West.
Despite the Raiders’ offseason hire of Antonio Pierce as head coach, the roster has failed to meet expectations. Now, Las Vegas must cope with the reality of another lost season and possibly another rocky summer full of changes.
To advance to the offseason, Las Vegas must finish the regular season, where they can still have an impact on the playoff situation. While the Raiders are mathematically out, they can still dash the hopes of other postseason contenders who remain in the competition.
Following several changes to the coaching staff, Crosby and other players met with team personnel to discuss the issues ailing the franchise, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports:
“Sources tell CBS Sports that numerous Raiders players, including team captain Maxx Crosby, talked freely at a players-and-staff meeting Monday about what they saw as inefficiencies and inadequacies in the organization on a weekly basis.
“The hope for everyone involved is that the talks result in some positive change for the Raiders in the second half of the season.”
Additionally, the players seemingly pointed to issues with scheduling and a lack of accountability:
“After Monday’s coaches meeting, the players gathered with the staff, and the floor was open for anyone to share their thoughts. According to the sources, a few themes emerged. Players complained that the scheduling was inefficient. There was a lack of structure, “wasting time,” as well as a “lack of discipline and accountability.”
“One source described the conference as concluding “uncomfortably for all sides.” But, to be sure, this conversation was not like the one between the players and the head coach almost a year ago.
Las Vegas has had its fair share of locker room troubles over the years, but it appears that this time around, both players and coaches are willing to work together to overcome them. It remains to be seen how this will play out on the pitch, but at least the initiative to right the ship exists.
Maxx Crosby Wants to Ruin Everyone’s Season!
Playing the spoiler isn’t something every player wants to do, but Crosby said he’s excited to try to disrupt other teams’ playoff aspirations.
