While both teams are unlikely to make the playoffs this season, Adams expressed his satisfaction with his decision to relocate. He accomplished this by throwing some big shade at the Raiders.
“Regardless of whether or not it was the right thing to do, it was the right thing for me to do to come here and change scenery, and I think there’s no denying that things are different,” Adams said during the Nov. 20 episode of “Up & Adams.” “We haven’t won the games that we were supposed to or hoped to win, but when you compare the scenario I was in in Vegas to the situation I’m in here, and the way this offence is. … I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to do well in our upcoming game. Just based on the circumstances in Las Vegas, I began to feel differently.
“At least I’m not feeling powerless and hopeless, which makes me feel better knowing I came here and tried. I’m still working with someone I trust and who can still play at a high level. We simply need to find a way to execute better and more consistently, and that’s all it comes down to.”
Why Are Davante Adams’ Comments Questionable?
It appears superfluous for Adams to continue taking unprompted shots at the Raiders, especially given how poor the Jets are. It’s unclear why the wide receiver feels less hopeless.
In three games in Las Vegas this season, he recorded 18 receptions for 209 yards. In five games with the Jets, he has 26 receptions for 278 yards. He averages fewer yards per game in New York than he did with the Raiders.
It’s also not like the Jets are significantly more successful than the Raiders. They have not been to the playoffs since 2010. The Raiders have made the playoffs twice in that span. Adams made the bad bet and is attempting to save face. It would probably be in his best interests to avoid doing chat shows for the remainder of the season.
What comes next for Adams?
Adams has made a series of terrible decisions that will significantly reduce his prospects of becoming a Hall of Famer. He probably shouldn’t have left the Green Bay Packers for the Raiders in 2022. When he realized things weren’t working in Las Vegas, he should have pushed for a move to a team like the Baltimore Ravens or Buffalo Bills rather than the Jets.
If Adams were savvy, he’d try to get out of New York this summer. He’ll be 32 before the start of next season, and it’s difficult to picture him wanting to play for a team that isn’t a contender. Based on how he has performed and acted this season, he is unlikely to receive a large salary if he moves.
