“The Tiger Is Back” – Packers Bring Back Former QB in Surprise Move Before Week 12

Alex McGough, a former Green Bay Packers quarterback, made NFL headlines on Tuesday while working out for the New York Giants. Following Daniel Jones’ benching, the Giants were hoping to acquire another quarterback to their roster.

However, the Giants did not sign McGough, instead opting for Tim Boyle, another former Packers quarterback. However, all is not lost for McGough, as the Packers are bringing him back ahead of their Week 12 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The former Birmingham Stallions quarterback was spotted at Green Bay’s Wednesday practice and will join the practice squad as a wide receiver, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
McGough, who switched to wide receiver earlier this year, was with Green Bay at the start of training camp before being waived due to an injury. McGough joined with the Packers last year after finishing his second season in the United States Football League.

McGough won the USFL MVP award in 2023 after leading the Birmingham Stallions to their second consecutive title.

The spring football standout completed 67.4% of his throws, totaling 2,105 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also made plays with his legs, gaining 405 rushing yards and scoring five touchdowns.

The Packers liked what they saw from McGough and signed him as their third quarterback behind Jordan Love and Sean Clifford. McGough didn’t get any playing time last season. However, McGough’s experience with the organization makes him a valuable late-season practice squad acquisition.
