The New York Yankees recently acquired star closer Devin Williams from the Milwaukee Brewers in a large transaction. Prior to the Yankees-Brewers deal, Williams was associated with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The former Brewers closer made a stunning admission about the Dodgers while chatting with media on a Zoom call Tuesday, according to Jorge Castillo of ESPN.
“Devin Williams, in a Zoom call with the media, said he was surprised to be traded to the Yankees because he thought he was going to Los Angeles,” Castillo said on X, formerly Twitter.
However, there is no reason for Yankees supporters to be anxious. Williams is overjoyed to be joining the ball team.
“It’s a tremendous honour to be able to play for this organization,” Williams said during the Zoom call, according to Yankees Videos. “There is no larger team in baseball…” “I’m very happy to be here.”
Williams has been one of MLB’s greatest relievers since his debut in 2019. Williams, on the other hand, initially took over as the Brewers’ setup man, with Josh Hader closing out games for Milwaukee. In 2022, the Brewers traded Hader to the San Diego Padres, allowing Williams to take over as closer.
He obviously took advantage of the chance. The Yankees are adding a closer who has not had an ERA above 2.00 since 2021. Williams recorded 36 saves and a 1.53 ERA in 2023. Despite only making 22 appearances in 2024, Williams recorded a 1.25 ERA and 14 saves.
