The Yankees are interested in Arenado, per an MLB.com piece. The Cardinals turned down New York’s one-for-one offer to trade Marcus Stroman for Arenado.
The seasoned first baseman’s possible arrival in New York, according to the sources, might significantly impact former colleague Nolan Arenado’s decision to waive his no-trade clause. Additionally, the article stated that he would agree to play for the Yankees if New York pursued a deal with St. Louis for the 10-time Gold Glove winner.
According to insiders, the Yankees made contact with the Cardinals early in the summer regarding a deal for Arenado. However, they were turned down because St. Louis was not interested in signing Marcus Stroman, a seasoned right-handed pitcher.
Last season, Arenado hit.272 with 71 RBIs and 16 home homers.
Arenado Prevents the Astros Trade
The Houston Astros and the Cardinals reached an agreement. However, Arenado blocked the agreement with his no-trade clause.
Arenado chose to leave his options open by refusing to waive his no-trade clause, according to MLB.com.
The report stated that “sources indicated that the Astros and Cardinals were discussing a possible trade involving the third baseman.” But Arenado told St. Louis that he would not travel to Houston by waiving his no-trade clause. As part of the agreement, the Cardinals were prepared to provide the Astros $15–20 million.
John Mozeliak, president of baseball operations for the Cardinals, stated that trade negotiations involving Arenado are still ongoing.
“All I can say is that we have been and continue to be in discussions with several teams. However, I don’t have any ongoing tasks,” Mozeliak stated. “As the new year approaches, we hope to have clarity on a number of issues that we’re still working on.”
