HUGE AND CONFLICTING ANNOUNCEMENT: ‘Dark Horse’ Player to be Yankees’ Starting Third Baseman – Announced By Manager Aaron Boone

Although there isn’t an obvious choice for the New York Yankees’ starting third base in 2025, one source believes it will be a dark horse.

One of the 25 Yankees predictions made by Pete Caldera of NorthJersey.com to start 2025 was the team’s starting third baseman. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is anticipated to move to second base for New York, creating a spot at third base.

The Yankees may use their in-house option DJ LeMahieu or have been connected to Nolan Arenado and Alex Bregman. But according to Caldera, the team’s Opening Day third baseman will be Jorbit Vivas.

Caldera stated, “Jorbit Vivas, a dark horse infield candidate, ends an incredible spring training by being named the Yankees’ Opening Day third baseman.”

Vivas is the 17th-ranked prospect for the Yankees. The Los Angeles Dodgers signed him as an international free agent in 2017, but in 2023, he was traded to New York.

Second and third are played by the infielder. Despite not playing in a game, Vivas got called up by the Yankees in 2024. He hit.225 with nine home runs and forty-five RBIs in ninety-three games in Triple-A in 2024.

Vivas will be the Yankees’ Opening Day third baseman, according to Caldera, but he doesn’t think he will stay there for very long. Caldera instead projects that New York will have a slow start and that Vivas will be optioned to Triple-A by the end of April.

After losing 20 of their first 31 games, the Yankees lose two of their final three games in Baltimore to end April. Caldera said, “Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has optioned Jorbit Vivas.”

  5. Austin Wells, C
  6. Paul Goldschmidt, 1B
  7. Jasson Dominguez, CF

The Yankees did a decent job of replacing Juan Soto after he left in free agency.

In addition to signing Paul Goldschmidt and acquiring Cody Bellinger, New York also added pitchers Devin Williams and Max Fried. On Opening Day, Caldera anticipates manager Aaron Boone will start this lineup because there aren’t many roster spots available:

On March 27, the Yankees host the Milwaukee Brewers to begin the 2025 season.

Roster Building Pleases New York GM
After missing out on Soto, the Yankees have been busy rebuilding their roster in the summer.

Despite the fact that New York is among the best teams in Major League Baseball, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman believes that more needs to be done.

“With Bellinger, Devin Williams, and Max (Fried), we’ve done some heavy lifting,” Cashman remarked. “But more lifting needs to be done.”

Additionally, Cashman states that he is working to assemble the greatest roster possible.

“My responsibility is to figure out how to make us as good as we can every year,” Cashman stated.

The Yankees don’t have many needs in 2025 besides a quality third baseman. With +850, or a 10.5% chance, New York presently has the third-best chances to win the World Series. With New York trailing the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers, the Yankees have the greatest odds of any AL team.

Since 2009, the Yankees have failed to win the World Series.
